My Call to America!
No
one is certain that were Christ to be alive today as mere man in the USA
he’d be registered as Republican or Democrat. The minister from Virginia I
most respect for his knowledge of Scripture himself bristles when I bring up
just how great a President Lincoln was. This man is a Southerner, and
Abraham Lincoln defeated the South.
Now we face the prospects of the uniqueness, novelty—call it what you
will—of having as President the USA’s first black man, first woman, first
Mormon, first before-career preacher, and ex-POW. Have I left out anyone?
Sorry if I have. So, how do we go about equating or “grading” the separate
distinctions of each in order to decide just how far we, as a collection of
voters, wish or want to go “where we have never gone before?”What are the important issues, foreign and domestic
that face us as a nation? From a dearth of Presidential proclamation
that inspires, a dryness our “parched” ears have endured for seven years, we
first and foremost need a leader who can talk to us clearly, fairly,
truthfully—and, yes, interestingly—for it is in our “hearing” that we shall
gain our inspiration to continue on in all efforts to lead in this world of
many nations. Who cares if Mr. Bush develops a legacy? No policy should now be enacted
or too-long held to if it is not right for the nation.
Iraqis are God’s children; we are not their father. We, like a wiser,
older brother or sister have tried to show their factions that rhetoric and
disagreement is okay, but it should not hamper unity as a nation. They must
come together as a nation and heal their differences. The mortar that holds
their building together cannot be our troops’ shed blood soaked up by dirt
and sand.
Americans do not want to stay in Iraq—we begrudgingly went in there. And
now it makes most sense to get out. But in removing ourselves we should do
highest honor to those who died, and memory of their lives is now all that
lives of them. How would they have voted, these men and women,
black, white, Hispanic and Asian-American soldiers of ours who have known
best what this war actually is? They would ask us to not get “caught
up” in the fancy of making history by our selection; they say by their
reports of their fired arms, “Give to yourselves a President who means what
he or she says, who does not play with platitudes, or lull us with lofty
speech that makes only dreamers of us, for there are battles to be
won: despair and discouragement in our streets and hovels, illiteracy that
prevents us from understanding the news, obesity that makes us hide behind
loose-fitting clothes, inconsiderateness as drivers that make us half of
‘drive-by…’ already.
“Give yourself a leader the youth can respect, want to listen to and not
ignore because of the leader’s goodness, aptness, sincerity, ability,
recognition by others for the stature of his/her proven leadership and with
full expectation that the job to be performed in the highest office will in
no way be self-serving; for, there should be no other goal in that
person’s mind than being the President of us all. Forget the
Presidential ‘legacy’
and afterwards, the money-making. Do not soften the cushion in
preparation for eventual departure from the office. Give it your best, and
let the future take good care of itself!”

So, who would Jesus vote for? Friends, he is doing more than waiting
to vote; he is preparing, changing, maturing candidates’ hearts, letting
each make their personal vow of service to him along with assurance they
will seek his wisdom through prayer. It’s all, still, “up in the air.”
